Description

Inspired by the poem “The Autumn Of My Life” by John O'Neill, for the 84th birthday of my mother.

 

Life came in constant motion, leaving little time for reflection.
Always caught up in a whirlwind of action, constantly striving to love and succeed, life was so good.

But summer days have no permanence. In retrospect, how quickly they passed.

 

Autumn brings a reckoning, energy levels on the decline.
Everyday things take longer, simple tasks require more recovery time.

There are the deaths and chronic diseases, striking family and friends. Winter is not quite here yet, though its precursors have been sighted.

There is compensation in more time to reflect and better appreciation of those around me, and for the gifts given.

 

Fewer peaks and valleys, less striving more acceptance, priorities are clearer. Love is deeper for having been tested, given and received, a life time long. And for always being there, in times of need.
